The New York State Office of Professions licenses our occupational therapists. Each staff member has a unique knowledge and experience level in the evaluation and treatment of development, educational, injury-related, and emotional-behavioral needs. All therapists participate in departmental continuing education, evidence based practice, and outside continuing education course opportunities. Many of our therapists have taken courses in sensory integration, sensory modalities, therapeutic handling, ball techniques, positioning, seating systems, assistive technology, and kinesiotaping. Our department also participates and serves as an affiliation site providing a training place for occupational therapists of the future.
The occupational therapy department prides itself in using a whole child approach to evaluation and treatment. Our therapists clinically reason the needs of the child to implement effective treatment strategies continuously providing gradation of treatment to achieve each child’s individualized goals. Treatment focus includes, but is not limited to development, sensory processing, sensory motor, fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, play, and self-care skills. Treatment also includes the use and evaluation of sensory strategies, sensory modalities, assistive technology devices, postural orthotics, upper extremity orthotics, and positioning, seating, and mobility systems.
Staff work closely with parents to ensure ongoing communication, parental knowledge and activities for home.
