A Teacher of the Visually Impaired provides information regarding strategies, modified materials and environmental adaptations to the classroom team. Functional vision evaluations are performed in order to develop appropriate objectives/goals to be implemented on an individual basis and in a group/classroom setting. They also assist families, teaching staff and students with visual impairments with appropriate modifications in order to learn to use visual skills more efficiently, develop compensatory skills as necessary (including beginning Braille and Orientation & Mobility skills), facilitate social integration and interactions with peers, as well as support students’ independence.
